These are the 20 most popular PIN codes: Is your device at risk?

Is your phone's PIN of "1234" a chance? No? Perhaps it is "0000"? Strange as it sounds, these are the two most used mobile security codes in the world. It is odd and how naive we have about the things we own.

Thanks to Tarah Wheeler, a cybersecurity expert and leading several companies in the field such as Data Trust, Threat, and Vulnerability Management, Splunk, we understand the 20 codes used. She obtained information from a security expert through the SANS Institute.

It is interesting to look at the heads of people and their choice to protect their phone when it comes in different hands. Indeed, if your PIN is listed below, change it as soon as possible.

Top 20 most commonly used mobile PINs (occurring in 26% of all phones):

  • 1234
  • 1111
  • 0000
  • 1212
  • 7777
  • 1004
  • 2000
  • 4444
  • 2222
  • 6969
  • 9999
  • 3333
  • 5555
  • 6666
  • 1122
  • 1313
  • 8888
  • 4321
  • 2001
  • 1010

We can easily see the logic behind the choice of some of them, but when I look at others, I ask myself, "How can so many people choose a code behind which nothing stands?" One such is, for example, "1004".

Experts recommend not only the choice of a more unpopular code but also be longer than 4 characters.
